Ellen Shaw de Paredes, MD, FACR – Our Founder
Dr. Paredes founded her Institute in 2005, committing her unique experience in breast imaging to the early detection of breast cancer. Dr. Paredes was the valedictorian of her high school and graduated from Bryn Mawr College after which she earned her medical degree from West Virginia University. She completed her residency in radiology at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia.
She held numerous academic positions at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and served as the Veronica Donovan Sweeney Professor and Chief of Breast Imaging at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Dr. Paredes had extensive research experience with over 70 published articles, numerous book chapters, presentations and abstracts. She authored and completed the third edition of her medical text, Atlas of Film-Screen Mammography, which was translated into various languages including Chinese.
Dr. Paredes also lectured extensively throughout the world on the topics of breast cancer diagnosis and breast imaging. She served as President of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Radiology, was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and received countless awards including the YWCA Outstanding Woman for Health & Science and Local Legends from Virginia. She was awarded the West Virginia University School of Medicine Distinguished Alumna in 2008 and received honorary degrees from Canada and Europe. She was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the American Cancer Society, the Medical Society of Virginia, the Radiological Society of North America and the Society of Breast Imaging. To honor her, the Society of Breast Imaging has created a Fund in Dr. Ellen’s memory in recognition of the commitment that she had for teaching residents and fellows.

Terry Wright, MD
Dr. Terry Wright joined our practice in September 2006. She is a board certified radiologist with expertise in breast imaging and women’s imaging.
Dr. Wright graduated from the University of Virginia in 1976 with highest distinction, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her MD degree in 1981 from the Medical College of Virginia where she ranked in the top 10 of her class and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
She joined the staff at the McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center where she worked for 16 years, the last two of which she served as the Director of Breast Imaging. She subsequently worked at the Medical College of Virginia as a member of the Breast Imaging Section faculty.
Dr. Wright is married and the mother of two children. In her spare time she enjoys music, reading, working out and researching ethnic local speech.
Evelyn May, MD
Dr. Evelyn May is a Board Certified Diagnostic Radiologist with 9 years dedicated to studying, practicing, and teaching all aspects of Breast Imaging. She received her medical degree in 2002 from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, one of the most recognized educational institutions in Latin America, where she also completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program graduating Summa Cum Laude, followed by a Breast Imaging Fellowship.
Dr. May was an Instructor of Radiology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile when she decided to pursue further training in the United States. She became a house staff physician in the Department of Radiology of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, and completed two Clinical Fellowships at the same institution, one in Breast Imaging and one in Pediatric Radiology.
Before joining our practice, Dr. May was an Assistant Professor of Radiology in the Division of Breast Imaging of the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at the Johns Hopkins University.
