Screening
Breast MRI uses no radiation but instead a magnetic field to image the breast. IV contrast is given for breast MRI because this allows the radiologist to see areas that are abnormal. MRI is the most sensitive test to detect invasive breast cancer, but it is not used routinely to screen women. Instead it is recommended for women who are at increased risk of developing breast cancer based on American Cancer Society Guidelines. This may be because of family history, prior breast biopsy results or genetic factors.
We offer a comprehensive breast MRI screening program with risk assessment calculation based on approximate family history and breast tissue density.

Diagnostic
We utilize breast MRI extensively as a diagnostic evaluation in the patient newly diagnosed with breast cancer or with some pre-cancers. This is most important in helping to identify the extent of disease and is most useful to you and your surgeon in planning the best surgery for you.
